LifelistXP

LifelistXP is a plugin for Lightroom Classic’s Library module, built to help wildlife photographers organize species data quickly and accurately. Its main advantage is speed, allowing users to apply full taxonomic metadata to photos with a single click, build a searchable lifelist, and review statistics based on the metadata in their catalog.  

The plugin is built around two primary windows: a Data Entry window for writing and reusing taxonomic metadata, and a Statistics window for reviewing lifelist totals, class diversity, highlights, and records over time. Behind the scenes, LifelistXP also maintains a local taxonomy database file, allowing species entries to be saved once and reused without retyping fields again. This helps standardize naming conventions, reduce typo conflicts, and keep metadata consistent as a catalog grows.  

LifelistXP also includes pre-configured Smart Collections designed to make the workflow more practical inside Lightroom Classic. These collections surface tools such as Featured Images and Best Animal Photos, making it easier to organize standout wildlife images and maintain a cleaner catalog structure.  

This is a tool designed specifically for wildlife photographers who want to maintain a local database of the species they photograph without relying on an outside service or online account. Instead of forcing users into a separate platform, LifelistXP works directly inside Lightroom Classic, using the software photographers already know and use every day. The result is a faster, more natural workflow for building a long-term wildlife record within the catalog itself.
